Astor was one of around 1,500 people who died when the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 after hitting an iceberg. The violin itself was sold for $1.7 million via the same auction house in 2013 and is the highest-selling item from the ship ever. The valise belonging to Titanic bandmember and orchestra leader Wallace Hartley, which held the violin he played as the Titanic sank, is also for sale. Two sets of twins who married one another have riveted TikTok with their unique love story. "We only went on one date before we all were like, 'Yep, we're together, this is it,'" Kerissa told BI. Kerissa told BI that while Adrian doesn't necessarily feel like her own daughter, it's strange to think both girls share the same DNA. The cover of that edition of S.N.C.C.’s newsletter called attention to police killings of Black men, with the headline: “Cops Run Wild. Where Will They Strike Next?” Black and Palestinian resistance to repression were bound together. The theology claims that an immense fraud has been perpetrated by Jews upon Black people. Yet in recent years, a new bond between Black and Jewish activists has emerged, catalyzed, in part, by the confluence of civil rights protests and attention to the Palestinian plight. The alliance is “growing and exciting,” Nyle Fort, a Black activist and assistant professor of African American and African diaspora studies at Columbia, told me.

The man, former Olympic snowboarder Trevor Daniel Jacob, filmed the YouTube video stunt to promote a wallet from a company that sponsored him, according to the plea agreement filed in the Central District of California. He pled guilty to destruction and concealment of a tangible object with intent to obstruct a federal investigation. Jacob took off on a solo flight on Nov. 24, 2021, in Santa Barbara County, California, and parachuted out of the plane with a video camera and selfie stick. Jacob allegedly agreed to inform the NTSB of the location, but lied multiple times when investigators asked over the next two months.

How Jewish People Built the American Theater
  + stars: | 2023-11-29 | by ( Jesse Green | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +46 min
Let Us Tell You A Story How Jewish people built the American theater as we know it. The theater, which for many Jews was a major way of becoming American in the first place, seems unable to acknowledge that the danger that American Jews face is not just historical, and not just onstage. (Both of Adler’s parents were Yiddish theater stars — her father, Jacob Adler, was a renowned Shylock in 1903.) Embedding their own observation and experience within Stanislavsky’s, along with the best of Yiddish theater and a generous dollop of Freud, they converted the American theater to Judaism. Sara Krulwich/The New York TimesThe Jewish contribution to the creation of the American theater was built on the acknowledgment of a larger humanity alive within each of us, available to some, with natural empathy and rigorous training.

Online paperwork shows the 35-year-old Chansley filed a candidate statement of interest Thursday, indicating he wants to run as a Libertarian in next year’s election for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District seat. U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko, a 64-year-old Republican representing the district since 2018, announced last month that she won’t seek re-election. Chansley pleaded guilty to a felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding in connection with the Capitol insurrection. Although he previously called himself the “QAnon Shaman,” Chansley has since disavowed the QAnon movement. He identified himself as Jacob Angeli-Chansley in the candidate statement of interest paperwork filed with the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.

LONDON/COPENHAGEN, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Global brewers AB InBev (ABI.BR) and Carlsberg (CARLb.CO) this week played down concerns among some investors that demand for weight-loss drugs may lead to a sharp drop in beer drinking. But AB InBev Chief Executive Michel Doukeris likened the concerns to others, such as how cannabis could disrupt various sectors, which he said were often short-lived. Some clinical trials on rodents have found treatment with GLP-1 agonists reduces alcohol consumption, eases symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and more. AB InBev has a big U.S. business, but earns more revenue in the Middle Americas and has a large footprint in countries like Brazil. Such emerging markets often have lower obesity rates, while weight-loss drugs are unlikely to be available or affordable there any time soon.

This alien planet, Theia, was thought to have completely disappeared in the collision. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs well as shedding new light on the inner workings of our planet, scientists hope they will one day have access to these slabs of alien rock to reveal, once and for all, how our moon formed. The assumption has long been that Theia melded into moon, the Earth's mantle, and its core, in effect disappearing completely. Previous theories have suggested this core-mantle boundary could be made up of bits of ancient ocean floors. The problem is that the core-mantle boundary is very far from the surface — about 1,800 miles.

REUTERS/Alexander Demianchuk/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsCOPENHAGEN, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Carlsberg has cut all ties with its Russian business and refuses to enter a deal with Russia's government that would make its seizure of the assets look legitimate, the brewer's new CEO said on Tuesday. The Danish group had since last year attempted to sell its Baltika subsidiary in Russia, following in the footsteps of many other Western companies exiting Russia since its invasion of Ukraine. "There is no way around the fact that they have stolen our business in Russia, and we are not going to help them make that look legitimate," said Jacob Aarup-Andersen, who took over as CEO in September. Carlsberg had eight breweries and about 8,400 employees in Russia, and took a 9.9 billion Danish crown ($1.41 billion) write-down on Baltika last year. Carlsberg had eight breweries and about 8,400 employees in Russia, and took a 9.9 billion Danish crown ($1.41 billion) write-down on Baltika last year. ZURICH, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Investors in Swiss asset manager GAM Holding (GAMH.S) have asked for the company's extraordinary general meeting - which could remove its chairman and board - to be delayed. The investor group, which controls roughly 9.6% of GAM shares, wants the EGM to be delayed until August 31, so shareholders can vote knowing the outcome of Liontrust's offer. The deadline for Liontrust's offer has been extended three times from the original date of July 25. The offer has been recommended by GAM's board, which triggered calls by some shareholders to remove chairman David Jacob and his board at an EGM. Some investors have opposed the all-share offer, saying in July that it "grossly undervalues GAM" and want to turn GAM around rather than selling.
